Programming your cell phone today may save a life/career Published Feb. 2, 2009 By 1st Lt. Erin Slaughter 3rd Wing Public Affairs ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Our leadership asks us time and time again to have a plan for when we're going to go out and have a few drinks. However, we continue to have DUIs. Are you aware of some of the options in the Anchorage area to get home safely after you've had a few drinks? One of these options is to use the Off the Road program. Many establishments downtown participate, and they will call a taxi for you. Two drivers will respond and one of those drivers will drive the patron's vehicle home. Another program available is Airmen Against Drunk Driving. Make the choice to take out your cell phone right now and program in the following numbers: -Airmen Against Drunk Driving- 552-4663 -Alaska Cab Company- 222-2222 -Checker Cab Company- 276-1234 -Off the Road- 646-4628 You may think this doesn't apply to you because you don't drink or maybe you already have a designated driver, but what about someone you know who doesn't have a plan? Having these numbers handy will ensure you can call a cab/driver for someone who might need it. Think about the possible consequences of drinking and driving. Are you willing to put your life at risk? Are you willing to risk the lives of others? We all make choices each day - make the right choice and CHOOSE not to drink and drive. You are each part of the Air Force's greatest asset - its people. Take care of yourself and your wingman. For more information, contact your supervisor or first sergeant.
