Air Force Assistance Fund drives on

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska --  Elmendorf's Annual Air Force Assistance Fund drive began March 16. 

Col. Richard Walberg, 3rd Wing vice commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Gerard Cappello, 3rd Wing command chief master sergeant, made the first contributions in the installation's six-week charity drive, which runs through April 26. 

Capt. Melissa Hull and Senior Master Sgt. Karl Heidelberg are the installation project officers for the 2009 campaign, which is the Air Force's 36th annual. The AFAF is comprised of four Air Force charities: The Air Force Village Foundation, Inc.; the Air Force Aid Society, Inc.; the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation; and the Air Force Enlisted Village, Inc. These organizations help with emergency aid, educational needs or help secure a retirement home for widows or widowers of Airmen in need of financial assistance. 

This year, Elmendorf's goal is to raise $99,618 for these charities. 

Each unit has assigned a keyworker to make contact with all assigned military and civilian members. Due to a shortage of preprinted forms this year, donation forms are available online. You can't donate online, but you can fill out the form, print it out, then sign and give it to your unit's keyworker. The donation forms are available at www.afassistancefund.org.
