Spring cleanup Published April 22, 2009 By Tech. Sgt. Mark Vance ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Spring cleanup is scheduled for May 2-May 9. Every unit and organization on Elmendorf has their own specific area of ground maintenance they are responsible for and will have to clean. The dates for main base clean-up, not including housing areas, are May 7-8. A copy of the base appearance plan is located on Top Cover. Units and organization points of contacts will be provided with orange bags which are required to identify trash from cleanup details and allow for free dumping. The bags are for general refuse only, people should not use them for hazardous materials such as paint, tires and oil containers. For those units that have unique or large items that will not fit into the bags, contact the 3rd Civil Engineer Squadron, Heavy Equipment Section at 552-2994 to precoordinate a pick-up time. Remember scrap wood, metal and cardboard can be dropped off 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Elmendorf recycling center at 6254 Gibson Ave. Open hazardous material can be turned in 7:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. weekdays at building 4314 Kenny Ave. Provide material safety data sheet if possible. Units will be required to dispose of their own trash at the city landfill. Loads are not to exceed the size of a standard pick-up-truck bed and must be secured and covered to prevent spillage in transit. The load cannot exceed 1,000 pounds. Unsecured loads or improperly covered loads will be subject to a $10 fine before being allowed to dump. The City Wide clean up information is located on the Chamber of Commerce Web site. People who live in the Anchorage community should visit the Chamber of Commerce Web site for more information on free dumping for Anchorage residents. Aurora Housing clean up is scheduled on May 8.
