Like mind games and itching for something to do outside in this nice Alaskan weather? Then orienteering might be a good option.

Orienteering is a recreational activity more commonly known as land navigation.
The Arctic Orienteering Club held one of their traditional meets on Elmendorf May 6. Sign-ups lasted for two hours and runners began at a time that was convenient for them. Orienteering can either be a team sport or it can be individually done.

Participants used  maps and compasses to navigate through a pre-set course as fast as they could. If it's someones' first time, there are beginner courses along with moderate and expert.

"Orienteering is a great way to exercise the mind and body at the same time," said Trond Jensen, president of the AOC.

The AOC is one of several orienteering organizations in Alaska. However the AOC is different from some of the other organizations, because it is a non-profit low-budget group and their events only cost $6 to participate in.
