Action Line: Tourist thanks Chenega guards

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- I just wanted to take the time to compliment you and your front gate security staff. I am an aircraft mechanic for an airline in Tulsa, Okla. I was on vacation to Anchorage, Alaska, for the first time June 3, 2009, and was trying to drive to Denali National Park from Anchorage. I got myself lost in the city and I ended up at your front gate.

Your security staff was very professional and courteous in getting me turned back around (heading away from the base) and giving me precise and accurate directions to get back on my way to Denali. I might add they did an ID check of my driver's license, which is to be expected, as this is a military base, and there are security issues here. It made a confusing point of my vacation a real pleasure to be helped by such people who take care of our military, and lost citizens like myself!
