Chief Master Sgt. Diane Morelli, 3rd Equipment Maintenance Squadron, served as the Senior Enlisted Leader to the Director, Air Component Coordination Element, while supporting ground and air operations against the enemy at Kabul, Afghanistan, from Dec. 14, 2008-June 16, 2009.

During this period, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Morelli was responsible for the health, morale and welfare of 500 personnel assigned throughout the theater as Joint Expeditionary Tasking Airmen. Looking to address a shortage of work space availability, she researched available real estate and spearheaded a construction project for a new two-story 40-person building complex.

After a tragic death, Morelli compassionately handled numerous issues, ensuring a tenant unit was prepared to continue combat operations. She volunteered to lead over 30 "outside the wire" missions supporting the director of Air Component Coordination Element. Her exemplary leadership and devotion to duty were vital to the Air Force mission in Afghanistan.
