Identity of deceased Airman released Published Jan. 5, 2010 ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Base officials released the name of the Elmendorf Airman who was found dead in Fairbanks, Alaska, Jan. 4. Col. Thomas Bergeson, 3rd Wing commander, said Fairbanks Police discovered Tech. Sgt. Ernest Spurlock, 3rd Component Maintenance Squadron, in his vehicle in a parking lot unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound. "Sergeant Spurlock was a valuable member of the 3rd Wing," Bergeson said. "We send our deepest condolences to his family during this time of sorrow." Spurlock was assigned to Elmendorf in August 2009. Information on the memorial services will be released when it becomes available. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is working with local authorities to investigate the cause of the incident.
