The 3rd Medical Support Squadron crawled out of the loser's bracket of the Elmendorf over-30 basketball league Jan. 19, to beat the 3rd Force Support Squadron twice and crowned themselves champions. In the double elimination tournament, it was a physical test for the 3rd MDSS , who played twice on Friday, which meant they had to beat the 3rd FSS twice.

The first game between the two teams wasn't much of a contest, as the 3rd MDSS rumbled past by the score of 38-27.

The 3rd FSS kept it close in the first half as they trailed by only 18-16, at halftime.

However, they failed to keep it close as the 3rd MDSS pulled away in the second half to take the first game by 11 points.

The second game would be closer with the 3rd MDSS sliding by the score of 54-48.

The 3rd MDSS seemed to have the game in control at halftime with a score of 21-11.

Nonetheless the 3rd FSS would drag themselves back into the game taking a 34-33 lead with more than six minutes left to play in regulation.

That would be the closest the 3rd FSS would come to victory. Not long after they took the lead they would lose it and not regain it.

The 3rd MDSS hit the majority of their foul shots at the end to ice the game and their championship.

The 3rd FSS coach William Bailey said he was disappointed with the loss, but that he was still proud of his team.

"We could have played a little more physical," said Bailey. "(However), we stuck together and we continued to play as a team. We were in this thing together, win or lose, so that was good to see."

The 3rd MDSS coach Ronnie Adams said the key for his team's continuous success was because they played as a team.

"We worked hard all year long, from the beginning of the season," said Adams. "The effort showed today, so I couldn't be happier."
