H1N1 vaccines recalled Published Feb. 11, 2010 ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently recalled several lot numbers of H1N1 vaccines due to quality testing revealing a shorter than expected shelf life. This was not due to any hazard associated with this vaccine. The primary problem is that the vaccine is losing its potency prior to its expiration date. All of these lots have been given an shorter expiration date with recommendations to use as quickly as feasible to ensure effectiveness of the vaccine. Elmendorf does have some of the vaccine from these recalled lots and has been recently using it in the immunizations, flight medicine clinics and during shot lines on base. There have been questions raised as to whether these recalled lots are dangerous to beneficiaries. There is no medical risk or hazard associated with these lots of the vaccines. All of the recalled lots have been administered before the new expiration date and do not pose any risk.
