Water Flushing Requirements Notification

After you complete the following flushing requirements, water on Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson will be safe to drink.

Water must be run from all faucets for 15 minutes prior to drinking. This should be done with all faucets in the facility turned on to half cold and half hot water. This will allow any small amounts of water within your building to be flushed with clean water from the distribution system.

This additional measure will help to ensure that the water you and your families consume is free of any excess fluoride. In addition, any liquid consumables made since 4 p.m. on April 27 with the base water supply (i.e. frozen treats, ice cubes, flavored mix drinks, etc) should be discarded.

Our staff and our utility provider (Doyon Utilities) have completed flushing the drinking water distribution system. The equipment responsible for causing the high fluoride levels has been removed from service.

Fort Richardson's Preventive Medical Group, Elmendorf's Bioenvironmental Engineering Technicians and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confirm that the water in the distribution system meets all Environmental Protection Agency standards.

We apologize again for the inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any additional concerns or questions regarding this notification please feel free to contact either 552-3985 or 552-3965.
