C-17's aid in oil spill
Sailors off-load oil spill containment equipment from a C-17 Globemaster III at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans. C-17s from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, delivered the equipment to support Deepwater Horizon oil spill response. Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deepwater oil rig located 130 miles southeast of New Orleans that exploded April 20 and sank April 22, causing a massive oil spill threatening the U.S. Gulf Coast.
