Alaska military members and their spouses had the opportunity to enjoy stand-up comedian Keith Alberstadt, as he performed at the Arctic Chill here, Monday.

Alberstadt, who was performing a weeklong show in a local establishment, decided he would also perform a free show for the military prior to returning home.

"I got a relationship with the military, so I made some calls and booked it," Alberstadt said, "I started doing shows overseas since 2005, so I been to Iraq three times and Afghanistan once and a whole middle-east theater on two separate occasions."

Alberstadt covered a variety of different topics during his show, and incorporated the military into some of the jokes as well.

"My nieces are in the Coast Guard actually ..." Alberstadt started, "Oh wait actually they're in the Girl Scouts, sorry I get those confused."

Alberstadt is also a freelance writer for Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update.
When comparing the two; stand-up comedy to writing for the show, Alberstadt prefers the stand up side.

"I love doing stand up," he said. "It's an energy boost, it is fun to get out there and make people laugh, because you can actually see it."

With a comedic style he described as good old fashioned sarcasm, Alberstadt notes that his type of comedy can be used in many situations.

"I am just a normal guy with different experiences and different ways of looking at situations, which makes it smart***." Alberstadt said. "Which is why it works in so many different places because everybody can relate to being a smart***."

Following the show, Alberstadt hung out with the audience to take photos and pass out website cards where they can order his standup comedy CD's.

When asked what his plans were for the following day, Alberstadt replied, "I fly out tomorrow and Anchorage is going to miss me baby."
