JBER snowmachine trails are open

Snow cover is now sufficient for snowmachine trails to open for riders on both sides of JBER. Automobile drivers need to keep an eye out for snowmachine xings around the installation.

Snowmachine rider on JBER-Richardson, contact the Richardson Gate at 384-2916 to get a Recreational Access Permit. The permit is free and is good for one year.

Please request permits between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for optimum customer service. Specific areas of JBER-Richardson open for riding will be marked on a provided map.

A mandatory briefing is required to receive a Restricted Recreation Access Permit for riding on JBER-Elmendorf. This permit is also free. Briefings are conducted at Building 7210 on scheduled days. New riders on base must also complete a one-time trail familiarization ride with their snow machines.

Classes are scheduled as follows: (Duty Use may come to any briefing)
Dec. 20 and 21 at 5:30 p.m. - refresher
Dec. 27 and 28 Dec at 5:30 p.m. - refresher
Dec. 22 and 29 Dec at 5:30 p.m. - initial and refresher
Jan. 7 and 21 at 5:30 p.m. - initial and refresher

Classes will be scheduled in February depending on the number of people who need training. For more information contact the Conservation Enforcement desk at 552-8609. Maps are provided at the classes. All JBER riders must have their snowmachines registered with the state of Alaska.
