Meet on the mat

Sixteen athletes came out for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's wrestling meet Sept. 21 at Buckner Physical Fitness Center, with winners crowned in four separate weight classes.

Wrestling in a round-robin format, Lipho Thirakul, of 98th Maintenance Company, defeated Wayne Parker, 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, for top honors in the 152-167.5-pound weight class.

In the 167.5-187.5-pound weight class, Ryan Hudson, D Company, 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 509th Infantry Regiment, topped fellow D/3-509th paratrooper Nicholas Badis.
John Logan Jr., 725th Brigade Support Battalion, won the 187.5-214-pound weight class by beating Preston Kellum, also of the 725th BSB.

Jacob Lunceford, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, won the 215+ weight class by stopping fellow 1-501st paratrooper Jordan Duffy in the final heavyweight match of the evening.

Upcoming intramural sports events at Buckner this week include the flag football championship game, scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., and the kickoff of the intramural inner-tube water polo tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The polo matches will be played in the BPFC pool every Wednesday night for the duration of the tournament.
