4-25 Airborne Brigade set to deploy Published Nov. 29, 2011 By U.S. Army Alaska News release JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- U.S. Army Alaska will conduct a deployment ceremony for the 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The 3,500-Soldier brigade will be leaving Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on a series of flights in November and December en route to Afghanistan. Since March 2010, when the brigade returned from its last deployment, the unit has been bringing in new manpower, upgrading equipment and conducting intensive training here and at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La., as part of the Army's Force Regeneration and Reset Program in order to prepare for this deployment. This will be the brigade's third deployment since it was activated in July 2005. The brigade first served in Iraq for 15 months from October 2006 to December 2007. It deployed again, this time to Afghanistan, from February 2009 to March 2010. The brigade is led by Army Col. Morris Goins and Command Sgt. Maj. Terry Gardner. Gov. Sean Parnell, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator Mark Begich, Maj. Gen. Raymond Palumbo, and Goins are scheduled to speak at the ceremony.
