JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- By order of the commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, effective immediately to align the force, the theater baseline is set to Health Protection Condition (HPCON) BRAVO for the entire USINDOPACOM area of responsibility. HPCON BRAVO is defined as a moderate risk. Strict personal and environmental hygiene is recommended; no handshakes or hugs; limit gatherings to no more than 50 people.
By order of U.S. Air Force Col. Patricia Csànk, 673d Air Base Wing and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson commander, JBER will transition to HPCON BRAVO measures throughout the day and will attain full implementation no later than 9 a.m., March 18.
The community should expect changes such as with ID checks at all gates; no self-serve and limited dine-in at DFACs; no dine-in at the military mall food court; changes to limits on purchase of high-demand items at the commissary; and changes to AAFES weekday hours of operation, among others.
For full details of installation-wide community service support affected by the transition to HPCON BRAVO, please refer to the JBER Installation Dashboard at jber.jb.mil/coronavirus (live at 5 p.m., March 17); JBER official Facebook site; and JBER Connect app among other forms of communication.
The risk for individuals contracting the novel coronavirus at JBER is currently assessed as low. JBER has zero cases of individuals infected by coronavirus; the state of Alaska currently reports three cases under isolation protocol.
Any individual experiencing fever, cough or difficulty breathing must contact 673d Air Base Wing Public Health officials for a comprehensive, case-by-case screening at (907) 580-4014, or (907) 382-0435 after duty hours. Testing for COVID-19 is NOT limited to individuals returning exclusively from international travel.
“We thank our community and mission partners for remaining calm, rational and understanding as Team JBER works to kill the virus,” Csànk wrote in an email to installation personnel. “Arctic tough, family strong!”
