JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- The 673d Air Base Wing Force Support Squadron received the Curtis E. Lemay award for best large installation-level FSS of the year in the Air Force for 2016.
The accolade recognizes 673d FSS leadership, customer service, support and quality-of-life programs provided to joint military members and their families.
The award is split into two categories; large bases, with more than 6,000 military and civilian personnel, and small bases, which have fewer than 6,000 personnel. Competition consisted of 81 squadrons (39 large and 42 small) all competing Air Force-wide for the title “best large installation” FSS. The evaluation process is extended over a 12-month period to determine the winner.
“Adapting and developing as a team aided in achieving this award,” said Air Force Lt. Col. Joshua Hawkins, 673d FSS commander. “It validates all the efforts FSS Airmen have made to provide customer-based service.”
The 673rd FSS is a diverse squadron with members who work hard to manage and maintain a multifaceted mission that includes providing lodging, child care, recreation, food services and much more to JBER personnel and their families.
“This achievement provides FSS Airmen with tangible evidence that their hard work and determination is noticed,” said Master Sgt. Joshua Livingston, 673d FSS flight chief. “Regardless of the award, FSS Airmen are passionate about the installation and strive to put their best foot forward.”
The award was named in honor of Air Force Gen. Curtis E. LeMay who, in addition to his aviation accomplishments, had a life-long interest in support and quality-of-life programs provided to Air Force members and their families.
“This award is significant because of the investments Gen. LeMay made in morale welfare, leadership and personnel,” Hawkins said. “It’s truly an honor for the 673d FSS to win the LeMay award.”
