The Community Strengths and Themes Assessment is available and ready to receive input on how community health, wellness, readiness and resiliency can be improved for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Fort Wainwright service members until May 16, 2018.

“The survey is an opportunity for service members to provide feedback on health-related topics in regards to installation programs, services and care,” said William Kays, U.S. Army Alaska health promotion officer. “It poses questions on everything from physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being, to installation fitness centers.”

The assessment will help leadership gain a better understanding of community perceptions about health and quality of life. The survey will primarily be used to aid preventive health, conduct research, evaluate customer service, and compile data.

The last CSTA was completed in 2016 with a total of 821 respondents, 98 percent of participants being Soldiers from Fort Wainwright and JBER.

“This year the goal is to increase the amount of respondents to 1,400, with a larger percentage of Airmen participating,” Kays said.

Participation will help inform the Ready and Resilient Council on priorities that community members want to address.

After the information and data has been analyzed by the Army Public Health Center, the feedback will be sent to the USARAK commander to be reviewed and disseminated.

The CSTA is completely voluntary and there is no penalty or punishment if individuals do not participate, nor can anyone be penalized or rewarded for their responses. The only incentive to complete the survey is to improve the health, safety and quality of life on the installation.

“At the beginning of the survey, it is important for participants to select U.S. Army Pacific, located in the drop-down box,” Kays said. “From there, members will be able to select Fort Wainwright or JBER as their installation.”

All responses are anonymous and data will be kept confidential and housed on a protected, secure server.

After the assessment, the Army Public Health Center plans to highlight and showcase the priorities and outcome of the survey through social media and other outlets. The report is scheduled to be released 30 days after the survey.
