The USO plans to host a Children’s Wellness Fair, free and designed for the whole family, at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Buckner Physical Fitness Gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30. The fair, designed to promote a more wholesome lifestyle with exercise and diet, is open to anyone with base access.

“We’re encouraging families to work out together and learn about healthy eating from the [673d Medical Group] and the [Health and Wellness Center],” said Ann Jarvis, USO Alaska Center operations and program manager.

The last wellness fair was in April 2017 during month of the military child and provided several projects with the help of other organizations such as the Family Advocacy Program.

“It was a great opportunity to expose kids to resiliency at an early age,” said Jennifer Frysz, Family Advocacy Outreach manager.

To support this year’s theme, the USO is hosting activities and hope to educate families about healthy sleeping and eating habits, as well as active living.

The fair is partnering with several on-base organizations such as the JBER hospital, library and HAWC, who will have interactive tables, and information booths, physical activities including a bouncy house, and yoga and Zumba classes.
