The 673d Force Support Squadron is hosting their second Summer Fest July 1, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on July 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Buckner Physical Fitness Center.

After the success of the first summer fest, the 673d FSS hopes to continue the two-day event biannually.

“Summer Fest is a way to give back to the community and families to enjoy the summer,” said Seanté Banks, Arctic Oasis program director. “During the summer, you have a lot of families who come and visit, so this gives them something to do.”

The event is open to anybody who has access to base. Families can enjoy free activities such as carnival rides, petting zoo, face painting and bungee trampoline, while some carnival games and foods are available for purchase.

“[Fourth of July] is one of the most important holidays of the year, so this event gives people opportunity to go out and enjoy the ‘Summer Fest’ if they do not have any other plans,” said Vygintas Kunigenas, Arctic Oasis recreation supervisor. “You can do a lot of fun things during the four-day weekend without going off-base.”

Kunigenas mentioned taking advantage of the big space at the Buckner Physical Fitness Center by bringing a picnic blanket for family members to sit and relax.

“Rain or shine, we will be here,” Banks said. “Just be prepared for long lines; because the carnival rides are free [children might] keep coming back.”

Banks and Kunigenas encourage family members to relax, have fun, and take advantage of the Alaska summer.
