Colonel Charles J. Butler is currently the commander of the 611th Air and Space Operations Center at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Prior to this assignment, Colonel Butler was the deputy commander of the 3rd Operations Group at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

Colonel Butler began his military career as a 1991 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. After completing Undergraduate Pilot Training and C-141 Formal Training, Colonel Butler was assigned to Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina. While at Charleston, he was an instructor pilot for Special Operations Low-Level II missions. In 1997, Lieutenant Colonel Butler was selected to cross flow from the C-141 to the F-15. He completed F-15 Formal Training in 1998 and has had multiple F-15 assignments. His F-15 assignments include three tours in Pacific Air Forces and one tour with Air Education and Training Command. He has commanded at the squadron level. His staff duty includes a joint duty assignment with the Headquarters Allied Air Component Command-Ramstein, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Tactical Evaluation Division; Executive Officer to the Commander, Eleventh Air Force; and director of the Commander, Pacific Air Forces' Action Group. He has deployed in support of Operation PROVIDE RELIEF, Operation RESTORE HOPE, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, and Operation NORTHERN WATCH. Colonel Butler is a command pilot with more than 3,600 hours of flight time in the F-22A, F-15C/D, and C-141B.
