CMSgt Edward K. Mueller is the Command Chief Master Sergeant of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and the 673d Air Base Wing, JBER, Alaska. He advises the Wing Commander on all matters influencing the readiness, resilience, training, and proper utilization of assigned personnel and families. The 673 ABW is comprised of more than 5,500 joint military and civilian personnel and their families who provide support for the largest military installation in Eleventh Air Force, including three Total-Force wings, an Army Airborne Division, two Higher Headquarters, and more than 50 major joint and combined mission partners. Additionally, the wing provides medical care to over 35,000 joint service members, dependents, Veterans Administration patients and retirees throughout the state. The 673 ABW maintains $11.4B in infrastructure across 79,000 acres.
Born and raised in Simpsonville, South Carolina, Chief Mueller entered Basic Military Training in February 2001, and graduated from Petroleum, Oils, & Lubricants (POL) Technical Training in May 2001. He has worked in every element of POL inside and out from flight-level to Major Command, including the International Agreements Team, assigned to the Defense Logistics Agency Energy Europe & Africa in Kaiserslautern, Germany, where he managed fuel storage, pipeline, and exchange agreements with various Ministries of Defense. Chief Mueller has deployed in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM’S SENTINEL, SPARTAN SHIELD, and the Resolute Support Mission.
As a CMSgt, he has served at a variety of levels including duty as a Fuels Manager, Squadron Superintendent, Director of Logistics, and Senior Enlisted Leader to the A-Staff. Prior to his current position, Chief Mueller was the Senior Enlisted Leader, 673d Logistics Readiness Group, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, where he balanced requirements for two squadrons providing comprehensive management and execution of joint logistics processes necessary to operate and sustain the Department of War’s premier strategic power projection platform.
