Brigadier General Mark Lachapelle

BGen Lachapelle enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in June 1998 and graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in 2002. Upon completing Aerospace Controller training, he completed Air Battle Manager training at 22 Wing North Bay. He was posted to 21 Squadron as both a Weapons Director and a Senior Director. In 2005, he was assigned to the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACS) component in Germany, flying over 1200 hours.

He has served in several staff positions, such as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commander of the Canadian Operational Support Command, executive assistant to the Deputy Commander of the RCAF, and the Directorate of Air Force Readiness and Plans in the Air Staff. In 2018, he served in the Chief of Force Development as the RCAF Representative to the Targeting Capability Implementation Team. In 2023-2025 he was the Deputy J8 at NORAD & NORTHCOM and the Chief of Staff for CANELEMNORAD.

BGen Lachapelle has commanded at various levels. In 2012, he commanded 12 Radar Squadron in Bagotville Quebec. On July 7th, 2016, he assumed command of 21 AC&W Sqn as the Sqn Commander and Director of Operations for the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS). Finally, he commanded 22 Wing Canadian Forces Base North Bay and the Canadian Air Defence Sector from July 2019 to May 2022.

BGen Lachapelle has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics, a Masters of Defence Studies from RMC, a Masters of Strategy from Air University. He is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Land Command and Staff College, the Joint Command and Staff Program at the Canadian Forces College, and the United States Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama and a graduate of the CFACC course.

BGen Lachapelle currently serves as the Deputy Commander of the Alaskan NORAD Region.
