Major General Joseph Hilbert

Major Gen. Joseph Hilbert assumed command of United States Army Alaska and the 11th Airborne Division on July 1, 2024. He previously served the director of the Force Development Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, at the Pentagon.

Hilbert graduated and received his commission as an Field Artillery Officer.

He has served in command and leadership positions in: the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment; 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment; 82nd Airborne Division Field Artillery; XVIII Airborne Corps; Joint Special Operations Command; 7th Infantry Division; Operations Group at the U.S. Army Joint Multinational Readiness Center; 3rd Infantry Division; and the 7th Army Training Command.

His operational deployments include OPERATION UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, Haiti; OPERATION JOINT GUARDIAN, Kosovo; and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan.

Hilbert's education includes a Bachelors Degree in International Ministries from Moody Bible Institute and a Masters in European Studies from the University of Leipzig, Germany.

Hilbert's awards and decorations include an Army Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; Bronze Star Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; and a Master Parachutist Badge.
