Sergeant Major Jerry Byrd arrived to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in July 2015 as the Operations Sergeant Major of the 1-501st Infantry Battalion. Sgt. Maj. Byrd assumed the responsibility as both the Installation Sergeant Major and the Army Support Element Sergeant Major in August 2017.
A native of Taft, Calif., Sgt. Maj. Byrd enlisted in the Army in 1992 and attended One Station Unit Training as an 11B (Infantry) at Fort Benning, Ga. SGM Byrd has held a wide array of enlisted leadership positions ranging from Fire Team Leader to Operations Sergeant Major.
Sgt. Maj. Byrd deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan on numerous occasions in support of the Global War on Terror. During his career, Sgt. Maj. Byrd has served with the following units:

2015 - present, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska
Sgt. Maj. Byrd’s military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System.
Sgt. Maj.
