Sitka 43 continues to serve eight years after fatal crash
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Pamela Proteau, a 773d Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle operator, picks up part of a wing using a 10k all-terrain forklift to remove wreckage debris at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Sept. 28, 2018. Proteau was part of a large wreckage disposal team whose mission was to remove debris from the fatal crash of the Sitka 43 C-17 Globemaster III that had been stored at JBER since 2010. After multiple shipments, the ‘Sitka 43’ wreckage is finding a new purpose at the Air Force Safety Center (AFSEC) Crash Lab at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M.
