JBER tree-planting ceremonies honor Arbor Day, life of volunteer Jill Hubert
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - Ursa Major Elementary School students shovel soil onto a recently planted spruce tree during an Arbor Day ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, May 21, 2018. Ecologists and participants planted two trees at Ursa Major Elementary and the JBER Cache in celebration of Alaska’s Arbor Day, May 17 and 21. National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, however, Alaska’s Arbor Day is celebrated on the third Monday in May. The Arbor Day Foundation recently named JBER a 2018 Tree City USA, an honor the base has earned for 21 years running.
