JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska --

JBER Fitness and Sports Centers directors announced the start of the implementation process for the 24/7 fitness access at both Elmendorf and Buckner Fitness Centers.

Registration has begun for Common Access Card holders, and all other eligible users can register on June 23.

Active-duty, dependents, retirees, Department of Defense civilians, National Guardsmen and Reservists are eligible.

"The Fitness and Sports Centers are critical to each service member's fitness and resiliency,” said John Limon, Buckner Physical Fitness Center director. "Personnel who work night shift and cannot get to the fitness center during operating times are now able to access fitness more conveniently."

Further steps are required for members wishing to access fitness facilities after hours when the facility will be unmanned by fitness center staff.

"Eligible users age 18 and older will have access only after they read and sign a Statement of Understanding, and watch an orientation video.  The video and registration form are available and online at http://jberlife.com/fitnessaccess/ ” said Josh Grieser, Elmendorf Fitness Center director. “The statement outlines the rules to be followed when using the facility after manned hours of operation."

Customers will utilize a CAC or 24/7 Fitness Access Card to gain entry to the fitness centers.

Established rules and guidelines will ensure safety remains a top priority for members.

“Our focus is the well-being of all patrons using the facility,” Limon said.

Several areas of the facility will be unavailable during unmanned hours.

"Areas available to customers during the 24/7 access will include the weight rooms, weight lifting equipment, Buckner functional fitness court, upstairs/downstairs cardiovascular equipment, elevated running tracks, locker rooms and main gymnasiums,” Limon said.

Areas not available will be locked or clearly marked as restricted. Areas off-limits during the 24/7 operations include the Buckner steam room, saunas, fitness pools, Buckner racquetball courts, Polar Paradise Pool, Elmendorf stand-alone restrooms, Buckner strength and conditioning room, and Buckner tanning booths.

“With the transition to 24/7 Fitness Access, we want to provide time for custodial upkeep,” Grieser said.  “When an area of one fitness center is closed for cleaning, the same area will be open at the other fitness center.  Please allow custodial contractors to perform upkeep.  Patrons can review the custodial schedule at http://jberlife.com/fitnessaccess/ .
