ERIC T CARLSON Mr. Eric T. Carlson currently serves as the civilian deputy to the Commander, 673rd Security Forces Squadron (SFS). He represents the commander in all official matters and functions as the senior civilian advisor in providing leadership, direction, broad technical knowledge, and strategic continuity for a force comprised of Airman, Soldiers and civilians that conduct installation defense; security, community law enforcement and antiterrorism and force protection operations. He provides program leadership and management advice to installation leadership regarding planning, organizing, training, and equipping squadron personnel to perform installation security roles and missions. Mr. Carlson served from 1983-1992 as a non-commissioned military policeman when he voluntarily separated from active duty for an opportunity to serve as a civilian with the the U.S. Army Alaska's Law Enforcement Command. During his active duty tenure he was stationed at Fort Myer in the Military District of Washington; Fort Greely, Alaska; Fort Rucker, Alabama; and Fort Richardson, Alaska where he performed duties as a patrol officer, special reaction team member, desk sergeant, game warden, law enforcement trainer and physical security specialist. As a civilian, after separating from active duty, Mr. Carlson next served at Fort Wainwright as a physical security inspector and antiterrorism officer until 1994 when he relocated to Fort Richardson and served as the garrision's phyiscal security officer and Law Enforcement Command's mobile trainer serving Forts Richardson, Greely and Wainwright. From 2000 to 2003 served as Provost Marshal for Fort Richardson under the U.S. Army Alaska Provost Marshal and in 2004 he became the Executive Officer for the newly formed Arctic Military Police Battalion (Provisional) and U.S. Army Alaska Security Officer responsible for U.S. Army Alaska's physical security and antiterrorism programs. From March 2006, until the Joint Base's merger in October 2010, he served as the Director of Emergency Services for Fort Richardson and Fort Wainwright's Police Departments and the Fort Wainwright Fire Department until the Fort Richardson Garrison became a stand-alone installation in preparation for Joint Basing. Mr. Carlson has a A.A.S. in Criminal Justice, and he has completed the Army's Leadership Education and Development and U.S. Army Command & General Staff College's Organizational Leadership for Executives courses. Additional DoD level professional coursework completed includes; the DoD Fire Academy's Fire Marshal course, U.S. Army Military Police Law Enforcement Senior Leaders course, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Security Engineering and Electronic Systems Design course, and Army Intelligence School's Intellegence in Combatting Terrorism. He was selected by the Alaska's Department of Public Safety to attend the U.S. Department of Justice's Crime Prevention for Community-Oriented Policing at Western Oregon Univerity and attended Texas's Institute of Criminal Justice Studies Basic Crime Prevention for Practitioners course. He's held Alaska Police Standards Council instructor certications in police traffic rader/LIDAR, OC pepper spray, TASER, Breath Alcohol Instrument Testing, DWI Detection and Field Sobriety Testing and as a Crime Prevention Specialist (CPS) with the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners. Military decorations include the Army Commandation Medal (1st OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (2), National Defense and Army Service Ribbons. DOD civilian medals include the Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service, Army Commendation Award for Civilian Service (2). Mr. Carlson was raised in Minnesota. He is married and the proud parent of four wonderful children and six beautiful grandchildren. They call Alaska home and enjoy spending weekends at their remote cabin in the interior, boating, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Mr. Carlson also serves on the Matanuska Susitna Borough Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and is the sitting President of the Board. He's a long standing member of the Palmer Moose Lodge where he has served on the board of directors including holding the post of Lodge Governor.
